Grief is a heavy burden, and losing someone or something dear to us—whether a loved one, a cherished pet, or even a dream—can leave us feeling lost and broken. In these moments of sorrow, we may struggle to find meaning, and our hearts may cry out with the psalmist, “My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word” (Psalm 119:28, NIV). Yet, even in the depths of grief, God walks with us, offering His comfort and hope.

Grieving with God

The Bible reminds us that grief is a natural part of life. Jesus Himself wept at the tomb of His friend Lazarus (John 11:35). His tears show us that sorrow is not a sign of weak faith but a human response to loss. However, as believers, we do not grieve without hope (1 Thessalonians 4:13). We can bring our pain to the Lord, knowing He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

The Healing Journey

Healing from grief is not about forgetting but about learning to live with love and hope. Here are some biblical truths to cling to during this time:

  1. God Sees Your Pain – Psalm 56:8 tells us that God collects our tears in His bottle. Every sorrow, every moment of mourning matters to Him.
  2. Jesus Offers Comfort – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). We can lean on Jesus in our weakest moments.
  3. Hope in Eternal Life – If your loss is the passing of a loved one who knew Christ, take comfort in the promise that we will meet again in eternity (John 14:2-3).
  4. God Gives Strength for Each Day – “The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me” (Psalm 28:7). Even when grief feels overwhelming, God provides the grace to take one step at a time.

Walking Through Grief with Faith

While grief looks different for everyone, there are ways to walk through it with faith:

  • Pray Honestly – Pour out your heart to God, just as David did in the Psalms.
  • Surround Yourself with Support – The body of Christ is there to help carry burdens (Galatians 6:2).
  • Find Comfort in Scripture – God’s Word brings peace and reassurance in difficult times.
  • Allow Yourself to Mourn – Jesus did not rush past grief; neither should we.
  • Hold Onto Hope – Though sorrow may last for the night, joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5).

A Final Encouragement

If you are grieving today, know that you are not alone. God walks with you, and His love sustains you. Even when the weight of loss feels unbearable, He is your refuge and strength. Keep holding onto His promises, and in time, His peace will fill the empty places in your heart.

May you find comfort in the arms of our Savior, who understands sorrow and offers unshakable hope.
